It’s Monday, two weeks after the event, and I just spent my lunch hour with our Producer, Sara Tekula, and her two-year-old son Henry, signing a stack of thank-you cards for everyone involved in making TEDxMaui 2014 happen. We’re both recovered, for the most part. A little sleep does wonders. I knew from previous years I should take it easy afterwards, so I gave myself an extra couple of days to recuperate and get all my images up on Flickr, but still managed to come down with a cold. This marked my third year as a core team member, and it was the first year I attempted it with a full time day job in tow. I was pretty run down. But it was worth it. Everyone I talked to said it was the best one yet, and Sara told me backstage that it went off almost flawlessly from a production standpoint.
Part of that, I’m sure, is that it was the third one, and the veterans all had their jobs nailed, but I think this year’s team had a lot to do with it too. Emma White, our Speaker Liaison and Program Director, put together an amazing lineup of presenters, and worked tirelessly to hone and perfect their presentations. Having Sarah Ruppenthal constantly pounding the pavement and cultivating sponsors for the event made a huge difference. This is an ingredient we didn’t have in past events, and it was sorely needed.
