I’m Peter Liu, photographer, digital media strategist, TEDxMaui Digital Media Director, former Silicon Valley techie, scuba diver, mindwalker and lifelong geek.
I began my career in computers accidentally as a freshman at Pomona College in 1979. (Long story.) I worked part time as an assembler language systems programmer at the college computer center, and eventually began teaching students and professors how to use the computer systems.
After graduation, I entered the workforce in technical support and information technology at Syncsort in New Jersey, then moved to the Bay Area to work for Amdahl in the late 80′s, where I made the transition to Unix systems administration and was introduced to the Internet.
Working with the Internet led me to Netscape, the company that brought browsers to the world, where I ended up managing a worldwide, high-touch, advanced technical support group responsible for supporting web server software implementations in Fortune 500 companies. After Netscape was acquired by AOL, I joined Sun Microsystems as a Sustaining Engineering Escalation Manager to help support those same companies.
In 2004, I left the computer industry and went off on my own, pursuing my passions in photography and scuba diving while looking for the next big thing, eventually moving to Maui with my wife, where I ended up in… technology, again. This time around, my passions are included, and in fact integral to what I do.
