The Old Lāhaina Lū‘au is sponsoring a fundraiser for the Friends of Moku‘ula on Saturday, June 4, 2011, 5:30-8:30 p.m. The theme is He Lei Hulu, He Lei Makamae—a tribute to Akoni Akana, their founding executive director.
Moku‘ula lies virtually undisturbed for almost a century beneath a county park in Lahaina, Maui, and is one of Hawai‘i’s most historical and sacred treasures. It was a political and spiritual center, and home of Maui’s chiefly lines. Carbon dating of artifacts found at the site has revealed some of the earliest evidence of human habitation in Hawai‘i. The goal of the Friends of Moku‘ula is to restore the site to its former glory.
